RB Leipzig Transfer Round-up: January 13-19

The January transfer window is open to business and RB Leipzig will, as usual, be amongst the centre of attention as the club looks for reinforcements to sustain a push for the Bundesliga title, while outsiders aim to poach the talent from right under the club’s nose. To keep you up-to-date, Red Bull Hub will provide a weekly round-up of all Leipzig’s arrivals, departures and rumours.

The deal to make Luan Cândido the first Red Bull player to move from Europe to Red Bull Bragantino has at last been announced. It has been known for some time that the 18-year-old would be move to Bragança Paulista after he was pictured training with the club in Itu-SP and has already featured in friendlies against Atibaia and Guarani. Cândido joins Massa Bruta on an 18-month loan following an unsuccessful start to life in Germany.

RB Leipzig are on the brink of signing Las Palmas goalkeeper, Josep Martínez, for €2.5 million. The La Masia product has been granted permission to travel to Germany on Monday to undergo his medical and complete a move to the club before heading back to remain with Las Palmas until the end of the season on loan. Martínez was being followed by unnamed clubs in England, Spain, Italy, and Germany, but it appears Die Roten Bullen have come out on top.

Speculation about Paris Saint-Germain centre-back, Tanguy Kouassi, has been going on for some time now. It was previously reported that the France Under-17 international had agreed to join RB Leipzig when his contract expires in the summer, but a deal is supposedly incomplete as Die Roten Bullen are still trying to persuade with him with a €4 million signing bonus. As per Scouts Attending, a recognisable source on Twitter, back-to-back Premier League champions, Manchester City, are also still in the race.

RB Leipzig are one of a host of clubs interested in Stoke City centre-forward, Tyrese Campbell. The 20-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and The Potters could be forced to sell Campbell this month in order to prevent him leaving for free. Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Rangers, and Celtic are also interested in his signature, while the player is open to the idea of moving abroad.

RB Leipzig have been informed by Monaco that the French club has no intentions of selling Benjamin Henrichs this month as new head coach, Roberto Moreno, has taken a liking to him since his arrival in December and sees him as a viable option, stating in a press conference “he stays with us”.

Monaco have informed us that ‘Benni’ will stay and that they don’t want to sell him. We have to accept that.

RB Leipzig are one of a number of German clubs monitoring Manchester City and Netherlands Under-18 left winger, Jayden Braaf. Leipzig scouted Braaf in City Under-18’s 2-1 FA Youth Cup triumph over Aston Villa on Wednesday and the 17-year-old has previously expressed a desire to play first-team football next season. Should he leave, the club will demand a sizeable fee for his signature.

RB Leipzig are interested in Red Bull Salzburg product, Valentino Lazaro, as the clubs aims to reinforce at right-back due to Lukas Klostermann’s role as a makeshift centre-back. Inter Milan have made the Austria international available for loan this month and the Austrian has been informed about Leipzig’s interest, however there has been no offer as of yet. Werder Bremen have been long-term admirers of his, West Ham United are also interested, but it appears Newcastle United have won the race as Sky Austria reported on Sunday that an agreement is in place with the Premier League club.

Timo Werner is once again at the centre of attention. It is reported that the 23-year-old is at the top of Real Madrid’s transfer list for a new centre-forward and it is only a matter of time before the Spanish giants make a move to sign him in the summer. In an interview with Bild, Werner flirted with the prospect of moving to Spain, or even England, but has emphasised that he has no desire to leave the club this month. Chelsea are among the clubs keen him and have opened talks to sign him, which has sparked the interest of Liverpool, who were planning to make a move in the summer.

Last week it was reported that Borussia Dortmund had intensified their efforts to sign RB Leipzig right-back, Lukas Klostermann, with Lucien Favre an admirer of his. This week, however, it is now a completely different story as Klostermann is no longer a candidate for the club.

Stefan Ilsanker has been told he will not be allowed to leave the club this month as Julian Nagelsmann suffers from a defensive headache. With centre-back duo Ibrahima Konaté and Willi Orban unable to train until mid-March and April respectively, Nagelsmann will rely on Ilsanker to fill the void and it is likely the 30-year-old will be added to the Champions League squad.
