Red Bull Salzburg Transfer Round-up: January 6-12

Red Bull Salzburg look set to have a busy winter transfer window as the club not only looks to replace two instrumental figures Erling Håland and Takumi Minamino this month, but also fend off some of Europe’s elite trying to poach the club’s talent. To keep you up-to-date, Red Bull Hub will provide a weekly round-up of all arrivals, departures and rumours. 

Arrivals


Name: Karim Adeyemi | Age: 17 | Club: Liefering | Nationality: Germany | Position: centre-forward/winger | Fee: N/A

The most exciting ‘addition’ to the first team squad so far is Karim Adeyemi. The 17-year-old has been described as one of the most promising German youngsters at the moment, and this has been shown by him winning gold in the prestigious Fritz Walter Medal. He has earned a promotion to the first team after scoring 11 goals and assisting 10 in 18 games for Liefering and Red Bull Salzburg Under-19, with 3 of these goals coming in the UEFA Youth League.

Name: Mërgim Berisha | Age: 21 | Club: Rheindorf Altach | Nationality: Germany | Position: centre-forward | Fee: N/A

21-year-old striker, Mërgim Berisha, has been recalled from his loan spell at Rheindorf Altach, where he scored 7 goals and grabbed 5 assists in just 17 Bundesliga games. The Salzburg youth product has been shipped out on loan 3 times and now Berisha may finally get his chance in the first team.

It has also been rumoured that Berisha may leave on loan again, this time to Turkish side Fenerbahce for 18 months. According to Turkish newspaper Önce Vatan, Berisha’s agent is currently in Istanbul trying to negotiate a deal with the Turkish giants.

Another striker that has entered the first team picture at Red Bull Salzburg is Ivorian under-20 international Anderson Niangbo. He has been recalled from his loan at Wolfsberg, where he scored 9 times across 26 matches for the Carinthian side. He also played in all 6 of the club’s Europa League matches and collected valuable experience in matches against both Roma and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Departures

Name: Kilian Ludewig | Age: 19 | Club: Barnsley | Nationality: Germany | Position: full-back | Fee: N/A | Contract: 6 months (loan)

Young full-back Kilian Ludewig has joined Barnsley in the EFL Championship on loan until the end of the season and is reunited with former Liefering head coach, Gerhard Struber. The Germany under-20 international played 10 games for Liefering this season before joining the English club and has performed solidly at both left-back and right-back.

Name: Jasper van der Werff | Age: 21 | Club: Basel | Nationality: Switzerland | Position: centre-back | Fee: N/A | Contract: 18 months (loan)

Van der Werff has joined Basel in his home nation of Switzerland on an 18-month loan deal. The 21-year-old has struggled for game time for Red Bull Salzburg and featured more primarily for Liefering since joining in 2018, which is in part due to an unfortunate injury record, including a torn meniscus that kept him on the sidelines for the majority of last season.

Name: Rene Hellermann | Age: 19 | Club: Admira Wacker | Nationality: Austria | Position: centre-forward | Fee: N/A | Contract: N/A

Rene Hellermann has officially joined fellow Bundesliga side Admira Wacker for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old struggled for game time for Liefering this season, playing only 72 minutes in the 2. Liga due to the competition in his position. Admira have signed him after he impressed scouts whilst at the Tirol Academy during the 2017/18 season and will join the club’s youth side at first.

Ogulcan Bekar has left Red Bull Salzburg after two-and-a-half years at the club to join Rheindorf Altach for an undisclosed fee, following 9 appearances for Liefering this season in which he netted once. He is an Austria Under-18 international who is deployed either as a centre-forward or just behind as an attacking midfielder.

NAME: Tobias Berger | AGE: 19 | CLUB: Austria Lustenau | NATIONALITY: AUSTRIA | POSITION: Left-back | FEE: N/A | CONTRACT: 18 months

Tobias Berger has left Red Bull Salzburg to join Austria Lustenau. The left-back, who has also been used in midfield for the Austria Under-19s, struggled for game time for Liefering this campaign as a result of an ankle injury and has decided to sign a contract with the fellow 2. Liga outfit until June 2021.

Rumoured Arrivals

It is reported that Lazio want to include Valon Berisha in a potential deal for Dominik Szoboszlai. The figure on the table is €20 million, a fee Lazio have never paid before for a player, so it is likely ex-Salzburg player Valon Berisha, who has struggled since moving to Lazio in 2018, will be included in a deal to lower the fee. However, speaking to the Salzburger Nachrichten, Christoph Freund has quashed the speculation.

Red Bull Salzburg are competing with Monaco and AC Milan for the signing of Saint-Étienne centre-back, Wesley Fofana, in a deal which would cost upwards of €30 million due to his recent new contract at Les Verts. This fee would represent a potential record-breaking transfer deal for Salzburg. RB Leipzig are also showing an interest in the youngster.

Kafue Celtic sporting director, Lee Kawanu, has ruled out any winter transfer for the younger brother of Enock Mwepu, Francisco, who has repeatedly been linked to Red Bull Salzburg over the past few months. He reportedly went on trial at Salzburg, but this is something Kawanu denies. A Red Bull Hub insider suggest that no offer has been made by the club.

Rumoured Departures

NAME: Marin Pongračić | AGE: 22 | Interested CLUBs: Wolfsburg | NATIONALITY: Croatia | POSITION: centre-back | FEE: N/A | SOURCE: Salzburger Nachrichten

Wolfsburg are interested in signing 22-year-old central defender Marin Pongračić. The German side, who are managed by ex-LASK manager Oliver Glasner, have reportedly even agreed personal terms with the Croatian and a deal could occur if the two clubs can agree on a fee. His market value is set at €6 million, as per Transfermarkt.

Despite being constantly linked to a move away from Austria, it is very likely that Dominik Szoboszlai will remain a Salzburg player for the time being. His agent, Matyas Esterhazy, has confirmed that Szoboszlai will not leave the club this January, despite interest from Arsenal, Juventus and Lazio.
