Red Bull Salzburg stretched their unbeaten start to the season to 17 matches in all competitions with a win over Scottish champions, Celtic, on Thursday night, despite conceding within the opening two minutes. The result meant that they joined the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan in achieving six points from their first two group stage fixtures.
Stepping in to replace the injured Scott Brown as captain, Kieran Tierney confessed after Celtic gave up a 1-0 half-time lead to make it six matches in Austria without a win that a side of Red Bull Salzburg’s quality should be competing in the Champions League.
“They [Red Bull Salzburg] are a Champions League team. The standard they play at, the pressure, it is a very hard place to go and get a result.”
“Their record in the past shows that, so we are obviously disappointed but we know it is a great team we played against.”
