New York Red Bulls continue their three-game road trip in Canada this weekend as they take on a familiar face in Felipe and Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place. The last time these sides met, the Red Bulls came out 3-0 victors thanks to goals from Daniel Royer, Bradley Wright-Phillips and the aforementioned Brazilian.
On a successful trip to Chicago last weekend, this week’s guests demonstrated their ability to win games ugly and fight for results on the road, something that will come in handy as the encounter with Vancouver is the start of gruelling five matches in a 15-day period as the MLS season nears to its conclusion. This period could be make or break for New York Red Bulls as they sit just on point off first place, with a game in hand, gridlocked with New York City and Atlanta United.
Vancouver, on the other hand, have had a mixed bag of a season and are in a race of their own for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. In addition, the Whitecaps are coming off a catastrophic 5-2 defeat to Toronto in the Canadian cup midweek and now must turn to MLS to attempt to salvage their season. After playing their starters on Wednesday night, anticipated them to rotate their eleven this time out.
The Red Bulls will hold bitter memories of their last trip to BC Place as their opponents knocked them out of the Champions League at the quarterfinals and will look to seek revenge and collect another crucial three points on the road.
