It has been a good week for Die Roten Bullen. Starting it at the weekend with a last-minute smash and grab in Mattersburg to snatch all three points, they maintained their winning start to the new season in the Champions League, overcoming Macedonian champions Shkëndija in torrential rain with a 3-0 scoreline. Now, with one eye on the two side’s B team’s encounter on Friday evening, Salzburg prepare to face Austria Vienna the following day on Matchday 3.
Austria Vienna come into this fixture off the back of their first defeat of the season, losing 1-0 on the road to Wolfsberg last week. But their last meeting with Salzburg could give them a vote of confidence. In the final game of the 2017/18 season, Die Veilchen put a dampening end on what was an emphatic season for their opponents, embarrassing them at the Teddybären & Plüsch-Stadion with a 4-0 win. However, the last time Vienna made the trip to the Red Bull Arena, the deficit was much greater as Marco Rose’s side put five past their guests with no return, which could be at the back of their minds.
There are no new additions to the injury list, with the same quartet still on the sidelines. Hwang Hee-chan is absent as he has joined the South Korea squad as they prepare for the 2018 Asian Games, while Jérôme Onguéné is a doubt with a back problem.
