After a dominating effort a week ago on their home field, RB Leipzig’s 4-0 win over Swedish side Häcken has all but sealed their spot in the third round of the Europa League qualifying. Now they travel to Gothenburg to finish the task at hand, with a two-legged encounter with Universitatea Craiova the prize awaiting the winner.
Entering last week’s first leg, Leipzig were in a potentially vulnerable state. In pre-season for just over a week and were yet to set off to their annual training camp in Seefeld, Austria, Ralf Rangnick’s first competitive game in charge was against a side that is relatively deep into their domestic season. However, thanks to goals from Bruma, Kampl, Augustin and a sublime debut effort from Matheus Cunha, all nerves were put to ease going into the return fixture.
In between the two ties Häcken were able to put an end to four consecutive defeats with a 1-1 draw against Örebro at the weekend, despite taking the lead just after the hour mark, while their Europa League guests have spent the past week in Austria preparing for the second leg.
World Cup duo Emil Forsberg and Yussuf Poulsen returned to training last week and have travelled with the squad to Innsbruck for the final session before heading to Sweden, Timo Werner, Péter Gulácsi, Marcel Sabitzer, Yvon Mvogo and Stefan Ilsanker have not. Dayot Upamecano, Marcel Halstenberg and Konrad Laimer have trained individually as they recover from their respective injuries.
