The 2018/19 season starts here for Red Bull Salzburg as they travel eastwards to face Oberösterreich Liga side Oedt in the ÖFB-Cup first round.
Winning the competition on four consecutive occasions prior to last season, Salzburg came close to a fifth as they reached the final in Klagenfurt but were denied by Sturm Graz – a side they had beaten 4-1 just three days beforehand to clinch their fifth Ö. Bundesliga title on the bounce – in extra-time as former Salzburg and Leipzig midfielder Stefan Hierländer rose up highest to head his side to their first piece of silverware since 2011, despite Stanković’s valiant efforts in goal throughout the match.
Red Bull Salzburg’s preparations for the new season have been flawless. In the five pre-season fixtures against Seekirchen, Ufa, Jablonec, Utrecht and Stade Rennais they came away with five wins, 19 goals and zero conceded. Oedt also come into the game in good form, winning four out of their five matches.
