The fixture list for the 2018/19 Bundesliga season has been released today and RB Leipzig will begin the new campaign with a trip to North-Rhine Westphalia to face Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 1. A week later, newly-promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf will be the first guests at the Red Bull Arena.
Following an emphatic debut season in Germany’s top-flight, Leipzig suffered from the notorious second season syndrome as increased fixtures and inconsistency derailed what was supposed to be a memorable campaign, with it being the club’s maiden voyage into Europe. Fortunately, despite fear of missing out, results picked up in the last few matches and the side was able to qualify for the Europa League with a 6-2 demolition of Hertha Berlin at the Olympiastadion.
